enviroCAB Seeks Arlington County Approval to Become World’s
First Carbon-Negative Taxicab Service
*****
enviroCAB would be Greater Washington’s First Fleet of Eco-Friendly Taxis
(Arlington, VA) -- enviroCAB, www.envirotaxicab.com, a proposed new taxicab service in Arlington, Virginia,
announced today that it is seeking approval from Arlington County to operate 100 hybrid taxicabs within the
County. If approved, the eco-friendly cab service provider would become the first carbon-negative taxicab
company in the world.
Inspired by Arlington County’s Fresh AIRE initiative, enviroCAB aims to take the lead on bringing
the decades-old taxicab industry into the 21st
century.
If approved, enviroCAB would be:
• the first taxicab company within the Washington, D.C., region to put a fleet of fuel-efficient, low-emission hybrid vehicles on the roads.
• the first taxicab company in the U.S. to completely offset its own emissions by purchasing “clean-source” offset credits.
• the world’s first carbon-negative taxicab service by additionally offsetting as much as 60 percent of the
estimated emissions produced by the 655 taxis in Arlington.
“Arlington residents tell us they want the gas-guzzling relics of the past off the roads,” said Hans Hess,
enviroCAB owner. “Since the County regulates the taxi industry for the purpose of preserving citizens’ health,
low-emission vehicles are the logical choice for new taxicabs in Arlington. Under our proposal, our carbon-
negative taxi fleet could remove more than half of the pollution produced by the exhaust-spewing cabs currently
on the street.”
As of April 2007, there were 655 cabs permitted by Arlington County. It is estimated that the 655 taxis produce
approximately 46 million pounds of greenhouse gases per year.
On Thursday, June 28, 2007, at 7:30 p.m., enviroCAB will formally present its proposal to the Arlington
Transportation Commission (ATC) at 2100 Clarendon Blvd., County Board Room #307, Arlington, VA.
Inspired by Arlington County’s Fresh AIRE initiative, enviroCAB is a business located in Arlington County that
is dedicated to operating an environmentally sustainable transportation company, and to bringing a “green”
taxi alternative to the citizens of Arlington County. enviroCAB will serve the taxi needs of Arlington County
with a fleet of owner-operated carbon-negative vehicles that helps improve the health, welfare and safety of
Arlington County citizens and taxicab drivers. For more information, contact Laura Van Eperen at
